Verifying your identity at the bank
If your visit does not concern online banking ID, you can verify your identity with one of the following documents issued by a Finnish authority:
- Passport, seafarer’s passport or diplomatic passport
- Identity card showing its period of validity
- Driving licence issued after 1 October 1990
- Alien’s passport or refugee travel document (excluding documents stating that the holder’s identity could not be verified)
You can also verify your identity with a passport or diplomatic passport issued by an authority in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or San Marino, or with an identity card accepted as a travel document. A passport or diplomatic passport issued by another country may also be accepted on a case-by-case basis if its authenticity can be verified with reasonable means at the time of identity verification.
Your identification document must be valid and undamaged, and you must be clearly identifiable from the photograph.
When your matter concerns online banking ID with strong electronic identification features
Online banking ID that includes a strong electronic identification feature allows you to log in securely not only to the bank’s own services, but also to many other services – such as online services provided by public authorities.
To be granted a strong electronic means of identification, you must have a Finnish personal identity code and be entered in the Population Information System. We must also be able to verify your identity using one of the following valid documents:
- A passport (including a diplomatic passport) or identity card (issued after 1 March 1999) issued by a Finnish authority
- A passport or identity card issued by an authority in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or San Marino
- A passport issued by another country, on a case-by-case basis, if its authenticity can be verified with reasonable means at the time of identity verification
