A Strong electronic identifier
Your basic banking services include a strong electronic means of identification, which enables you to log in securely not only to the bank’s own services, but also to many other services – such as public authorities’ online services.
To be granted a strong electronic means of identification, you must have a Finnish personal identity code and be entered in the Population Information System. We must also be able to verify your identity using one of the following valid documents:
- A passport (including a diplomatic passport) or identity card (issued after 1 March 1999) issued by a Finnish authority
- A passport or identity card issued by an authority in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or San Marino
- A passport issued by another country, on a case-by-case basis, if its authenticity can be reasonably verified during identification
If you do not have any of the documents listed above, you can visit a police station to have your identify verified. The police will verify your identity and issue a certificate of initial identification that will be sent directly to the bank by registered mail. For more information, visit the police website: https://poliisi.fi/en/instructions-for-applying-for-identification-for-the-purpose-of-electronic-identification-documents
If you do not meet the requirements for a strong electronic means of identification, we can offer a more limited method of identification that works in the bank’s own payment services, but not in other online services.
