Basic banking services

As a retail customer, you are entitled to the basic banking services we offer, which include (pages in Finnish):

Notice!

Please note that POP Bank provides its services in Finnish and Swedish. If you want to conduct your business in another language, you have the right to use an interpreter. You will then be responsible for any costs you incur from using an interpreter. Agreements can only be made in Finnish and Swedish, and it is always the bank’s responsibility to ensure that the customer understands his or her rights and obligations under an agreement.

Basic banking services are offered to all retail customers who are legally resident in the European Economic Area (EEA).

We process applications for basic banking services as quickly as possible and no later than within 10 banking days from the date on which all required information and documents have been received.

If we refuse to provide you with the services, we will always inform you in writing of the reasons for the refusal and how to appeal the decision.

Identification documents accepted by the bank

The following price lists and conditions apply to basic banking (pages in Finnish):

A Strong electronic identifier

Your basic banking services include a strong electronic means of identification, which enables you to log in securely not only to the bank’s own services, but also to many other services – such as public authorities’ online services.

To be granted a strong electronic means of identification, you must have a Finnish personal identity code and be entered in the Population Information System. We must also be able to verify your identity using one of the following valid documents:

  • A passport (including a diplomatic passport) or identity card (issued after 1 March 1999) issued by a Finnish authority
  • A passport or identity card issued by an authority in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or San Marino
  • A passport issued by another country, on a case-by-case basis, if its authenticity can be reasonably verified during identification

If you do not have any of the documents listed above, you can visit a police station to have your identify verified. The police will verify your identity and issue a certificate of initial identification that will be sent directly to the bank by registered mail. For more information, visit the police website: https://poliisi.fi/en/instructions-for-applying-for-identification-for-the-purpose-of-electronic-identification-documents

If you do not meet the requirements for a strong electronic means of identification, we can offer a more limited method of identification that works in the bank’s own payment services, but not in other online services.
